Country’s 127th Amendment Bill: A Constitution Amendment Bill giving the right to states and union territories to make their own list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) has got the approval of Parliament.

Let me tell you that on August 10, 2021, the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill 2021 to empower states and union territories to prepare their own Other Backward Classes (OBC) lists.

Then the next day i.e. on August 11, 2020, the Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill 2021 by 187 votes. While voting, there was not even 1 vote against the bill.
What will be the benefits of passing the OBC Bill (2021);
The bill aims to restore the power to states and union territories to prepare and maintain their own lists of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBCs).
According to India’s Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar, who introduced the Bill for consideration and passing, the Bill made it clear to the House and the people of the country that the State Government and Union Territories will have rights now to prepare and maintain their own list of SEBCs. Central Minister Virendra Kumar termed the bill as a historic law as it would benefit 671 castes of the country.
The government also said that it was necessary to “protect the federal structure of the country and empower the state governments to maintain the list of OBCs”.
